Balloons are not the only things in the August sky. |
August; the month's bright Sturgeon Moon on the 9th heralds a month of stargazing magic.
Perseid Meteor Shower
The peak of the Perseid Meteor Shower comes on the 12th and 13th of August, with rate of up to 150 meteors per hour. The full moon around these dates could make viewing difficult, and meteors may be more visible in the darker skies of the new moon later in the month.
Planetary Parade
Throughout August, six planets will journey across the night sky - culminating in a planetary parade in the middle of the month.
On the morning of the 18th August, Mercury, Venus, Jupiter, Saturn, Uranus and Neptune will stretch upwards from the horizon. Perfect for early risers, the best view comes just before sunrise in the eastern sky.
New Moon
The New Moon is welcomed on the 23rd of August, which, giving less light than the full moon, may enable the Perseid Meteor Shower to be viewed a little easier.
